MINISTRIES |
119 CONCLAVE 119 Conclave: The concept is simple – “to grow as spiritually deep as possible”. We realize that many people have great intentions of pushing deeper into Christian growth, yet the grim reality of it all is that an intention without movement doesn’t amount to much. We’re lazy. We’re selfish. We’ve gotten to a place in our discipleship where we’ve been far too comfortable with our 3rd grade Sunday school knowledge. My friends, this should not be. You settle for much too little while a feast is waiting. This is what 119 Conclave hopes to do – a bible study for the dissatisfied. For those who want more than a fluffy bible study this is for you. 119: Comes from one of the most recognizable wisdom books, Psalms 119. Verse 9 asks “How can a young man keep his way pure?” It is answered, “by guarding it according to your word”. During this 1-hour block we seek to find truth from the errant, infallible, all-sufficient sacred text of ours called the Bible. We understand that all scripture leads us to Jesus and by following him and his teachings, it brings about the greatest, best-possible life. In addition, we seek out the wisdom of the men & women of faith who have gone before us. In doing so, we dig around systematic theology books, church history, apologetics, and hermeneutics. Conclave: Simply means a gathering of like-minded people. We are by no means experts or have figured out this Christianity thing out. We come with our baggage and doubts and we honestly lay these on the table as a group. We want to learn all there is to know about this great faith and perhaps experience life a bit deeper. Logistics: This bible study is open to anyone who is interested. All we ask is that you stay committed and come with an attitude of learning. We ask that you be respectful to those who may disagree or may be less mature than you in faith. We meet every Friday (unless specified) at Chinese Baptist Church 900 Brogden Rd. Houston, Texas 77024 (713.461.0963) at 6:00pm. For more information please contact Justin Wong at justinhwong@gmail.com. Lastly, we ask that you bring a bible (if you don’t own one, we’ll gladly provide one for you), writing utensils, and some form of journal for notes. |
