I have attended Chinese Baptist Church since I was born. I learned all the Christian basics in Children’s Worship, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. I accepted Jesus into my heart sometime during 4th or 5th grade. In February 2008, I was baptized along with my sister.
I never really understood the “deep stuff” of Christianity until middle school. Going to Access on Friday nights, where we sang praises to God and talked in small groups, really made me understand that Christianity shouldn’t just be a weekly thing. We should show that we are Christians wherever we go, whether it’s at school, work, or even at the local grocery store. I also understood that we should always try to grow as a Christian because you can never stop growing. Of course, there are always many struggles and sins that get in the way. For example, pride is a big issue for me because I sometimes tend to try to do things my own way even though it might not be God’s plan. Fortunately, God is a loving and forgiving God.
It’s easy to say that I am a Christian because my parents are Christians. But another reason that I choose to be a Christian is because God has commanded us to glorify Him. Life is not about doing things just for ourselves. We need to thank God for sending Jesus to Earth to save us from our sins by living life according to his will. My favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 4:16: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” This means that God is working in us daily so that we may do what He commands us.
